The training cheque allows jobseekers to take additional general and technical training classes specifically tailored to the requirements of their new business within the first six months of their hiring or of becoming self-employed.

What is it about?

Training cheques are a benefit provided to job seekers to facilitate their hiring or setting up as self-employed.

Training is paid for with these cheques which are designed to improve or expand their knowledge in their new position/activity. Training can be on topics ranging from construction, wood, industry, security, the environment, hospitality, services, secretarial, transport, sales, etc.

Who is eligible?

Jobseekers residing in Brussels and registered with Actiris. Holders of a voucher prior to their hiring OR setting up as full-time self-employed.

What are the requirements?

THE JOBSEEKER MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • not have received a diploma beyond higher secondary education (CESS);
  • be registered with Actiris as a jobseeker and unemployed for at least two years;
  • be 46 years old or older;
  • be officially disabled.

THREE CONDITIONS MUST BE MET BY THE EMPLOYER AND THE EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT PROPOSED TO THE JOBSEEKER:

  • The operating headquarters must be in Brussels
  • The contract must be permanent, and
  • Minimum part-time.
What is the amount granted?

The training cheque is 50% funded by Actiris, up to €2,250.

The balance is paid by the employer OR the future self-employed person.

Are there cases of incompatibility?

The training cheque can be combined with language and ICT training cheques.

How to apply?

The choice of training courses - the content, number of hours and practical aspects - are decided jointly by the jobseeker, the new employer and a training centre or are defined in a training plan with the Actiris counsellor, if the person in question will be setting up as self-employed.

The jobseeker must request a voucher BEFORE setting up as self-employed or being hired. The voucher is available from Actiris.

The jobseeker will receive training cheques against the voucher with a completed training plan and of a copy of the employment contract or proof of self-employment status AFTER signing the employment contract OR setting up as self-employed.

Training must begin within 60 days of the issue of the vouchers and be completed within six months of hiring as a salaried employee or setting up as full-time self-employed.
